The Continental, situated on the verdant fourth floor podium of Pacific Place, offers a contemporary European dining experience within a refined garden setting. We were commissioned with the revitalisation and redesign of the space, and decided to focus on elevating the spatial experience through material quality, spatial rhythm, and transparency between interior and exterior.

One of the key design responses was to visually and physically integrate the lush outdoor terrace with the interior dining area. This was achieved through full-height glazing, carefully positioned to frame the surrounding tropical greenery and draw natural light deep into the space.

The ceiling was defined by a custom undulating installation, composed of rhythmic acoustic baffles in a sinuous wave pattern. This sculptural element significantly improves the acoustic performance of the space while introducing a sense of movement and scale to the otherwise orthogonal plan. Lighting is suspended discreetly between the curves, creating intimate pools of light at each table without disturbing the openness of the room.

Materiality throughout the restaurant reinforces a contemporary, timeless identity. Rich timber floors laid in a herringbone pattern contrast with white stone surfaces and bronze detailing, while bespoke furniture and curved timber joinery elements—such as the open screen dividers—provide both privacy and visual layering. The palette was selected to complement the natural surroundings, with leather and fabric finishes in deep greens, umber, and soft neutrals.

Furniture is custom-designed to support varied modes of dining—from casual lunches to formal evening service—while maintaining spatial flexibility. Service stations and banquettes are discreetly integrated within the architectural envelope, avoiding visual clutter and enhancing circulation flow.

The resulting design is one of restrained elegance, defined by its balance between interior sophistication and the lush landscape it opens onto.
