Badrutt’s Palace Hotel, a 130-year-old icon of Alpine luxury, is supported by a dedicated team of 600 employees whose work ensures its world-class reputation. We were commissioned to reimagine Bella Vista, the staff restaurant, with the goal of aligning the quality of employee spaces with that of the guest experience.
The design approach sought to balance heritage and modernity—creating a warm, functional environment grounded in contemporary design while paying homage to the hotel’s legacy. Drawing on our experience in Asian modernism and inspired by archival materials from the Engadin region, the interior incorporates both historic and local references. During demolition, an original stone wall was uncovered. This element was retained and integrated into the new design as a focal point, connecting past and present within the space.
Materials such as terracotta tiles and solid wood parquet contribute to a tactile and welcoming atmosphere. The layout supports both communal gathering and individual respite, with a central chef’s table overlooking an open kitchen, a dedicated lounge with Italian furnishings, a smoker’s room, and a sun terrace with panoramic views.
To meet the operational needs of a large, international staff, we introduced electronic ordering kiosks and a mobile app to manage takeaway orders efficiently. Meals are freshly prepared daily by a dedicated culinary team, offering global dishes tailored to diverse dietary needs and variable shift schedules.
Bella Vista now sets a precedent for thoughtfully designed staff spaces in the hospitality industry, reflecting the same care and attention afforded to guest-facing environments.
