Located on the 32nd floor of EAST Hong Kong, Sugar (Bar.Deck.Lounge) is a rooftop destination designed to transition effortlessly between daytime lounging and evening gatherings, with expansive views over Victoria Harbour framing the experience.

We conceived the interior as a series of interconnected zones, balancing openness with intimacy. A defining feature of the space is a woven timber screen, reminiscent of an oversized rattan weave. This architectural element introduces a tactile softness and organic rhythm to the otherwise linear layout, subtly delineating lounge seating from the bar while maintaining spatial transparency.

The material palette features natural woods, leather, and textured upholstery in slate blue and graphite tones. Seating is arranged to encourage informal interaction, ranging from high stools at the bar to more relaxed modular sofas and ottomans. Tables are scaled for both individual use and group settings, with cordless table lamps offering flexible ambient lighting throughout the space.

The bar itself is a central visual anchor, finished in warm timber tones and backed by a mirrored shelving system that reflects both the interior and the city skyline beyond. The use of reflective surfaces, layered materials, and subtle textural contrasts adds depth without overwhelming the architectural clarity of the space.
Together with the outdoor deck area—designed with a similar attention to material continuity and layout—the project creates a coherent hospitality environment that supports the hotel's positioning while serving as a standalone urban venue.
